With just a few months left to raise the necessary funds to create a $200,000 endowment fund, the Elgin Chamber/Community Club took it upon itself to make a major contribution.
Thirty-eight members gathered for the monthly meeting at the Steel Steed Steakhouse & Saloon. During the course of a meeting which lasted nearly two hours, the organization unanimously approved donating $1,000 towards the Elgin Area Endowment Fund.
Then, moments later, another motion was made to donate all proceeds from the upcoming chili cook-off to the fund drive.
Earlier in the meeting, Bev Clark explained how the community must raise $54,000 between now and the deadline of June 30, 2009 to, with the help of donations from the Hunt Family Foundation, meet the $200,000 goal.
