Eisenhauer shoots her way into the record books

ELGIN — Outscoring their opponent in all four quarters, Elgin Public-Pope John’s girls team defeated Wausa 49 to 33.

Six points by senior Ashlynne Charf helped stake the Wolfpack to a five-point lead after one quarter.

The lead kept growing and by halftime EPPJ led 27 to 14. Keyera Eisenhauer had six points in the quarter.

In the closing stretches of the first half, EPPJ outscored the Vikings nine to four. Reserves played a big role as Kayton Zwingman, Braelyn Martinsen, Elizabeth Moser and Callie Heithoff each scored two points and Sara Bode added a free throw.

The big excitement in the game came in the second half. Eisenhauer needed six points to reach the 1,000 point career mark and was well on her way to getting the mark when she hit a trey to start the third quarter.

Then with two minutes gone in the fourth quarter, Eisenhauer connected on another trey with an assist from Charf,  from the left side of the court. Fans joined family in the stands celebrating the moment as Coach Randy Eisenhauer, her father, called timeout.

“I was pretty proud of myself,” she said about achieving the mark, “and all the hard work that I put in the gym, but gotta move on now and keep working hard because there’s more goals to achieve than just that.”

Coach Randy Eisenhauer echoed her comments after the game. “You can’t do this without good teammates and that’s what we have,” he said.
