District #18 to hold budget hearing Tuesday

A rare morning meeting of the Elgin school board will be held next week.

The District #18 Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 27, beginning at 8 a.m. in the distance learning room at the high school.

The agenda for the meeting will be for the purpose of adoption of the 2022/23 school budget and tax request.

According to the budget summary published in last week’s issue of The Elgin Review, the school district is seeking a property tax request of more than $3.29 million. One year ago the tax request was $2,540,404.

The proposed tax rate is 0.444113, an increase of 23 percent from one year ago when the tax rate was 0.360375. According to the tax request document, the operating budget would rise seven percent from one year ago.

Regular meeting held
