Persons wishing to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs can do so Saturday at the Antelope County Sheriff’s Department.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the sheriff’s department, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the North Central District Health Department, will give the public an opportunity to prevent medicine abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted medications.
These items should be taken to the sheriff’s office at 202 Main in Neligh.
The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
What to bring to the collection:
• Expired or unwanted prescription and medicines
• Unused vitamins
• Veterinary medications
• Over the counter medicines
DO NOT bring needles, illegal drugs, cancer drugs or medical waste of any kind.
Clean out your medicine cabinet and bring all your unwanted medications to the event for proper disposal. All medicine will be disposed by the DEA.
Leave the label on the container but mark out your name and take to the collection site nearest you.
Important information about unwanted medicine
Never flush unwanted leftover drugs down the drain. This can lead to water contamination and is affecting fish, frogs and drinking water supplies
Never give your unwanted medicine to someone else to use-it could kill them.
Never take a prescription that was prescribed for someone else. It could kill you
Having unwanted drugs around the home presents a danger to children, guests and pets that could accidently ingest the drugs.
