Alma Ousts Wolfpack from Football Playoffs

ALMA — Less than a week after scoring 60 points, the Wolfpack managed just two points Wednesday and were ousted from the State Class D-1 Football Playoffs by Alma 22 to 2.

Expectations were high heading into the game and a crowd of more than 100 Wolfpack fans made the four-hour trip to the game.

For awhile the Wolfpack didn’t disappoint and took an early lead against the Cardinals. The Wolfpack blocked a Cardinals’ punt on Alma’s opening possession but were unable to move the ball and turned it over on downs. Again, EPPJ’s defense forced a punt. This time the snap went over the punter’s head and was downed in the endzone for a safety, giving the Wolfpack a 2 to 0 lead midway through the first quarter.

Following close behind a massive offensive line, Alma running back Garrett Kolling helped the Cardinals move the ball into scoring possession. However, inside the Wolfpack’s 10-yard line, Kolling fumbled and Evan Parks recovered on the one, denying the Cardinals once again.
