William (Bill) Eischeid was born to Angela Henkenius Eischeid and Joseph Eischeid on September 18,1942 in Elgin, Nebraska. As a typical farm kid, chores were finished before heading to St Boniface Elementary and, later, St Boniface High School. After graduation in 1961, he worked at the Elgin Lumber Yard before being drafted into the US Army to train as a medic. Deployment to Germany was side-lined when he was called home after a farm accident took the life of his father. Bill helped his mother raise three younger siblings and took over the family farm with his brother, Ron, coming full circle to farm chores again.
Farming became his life, raising hogs, cattle and crops working with brothers Ron, David and Uncle Ed Eischeid. He married Carol Totten Eischeid in 1972 at St. Boniface Church in Elgin. Sarah, Chris, Matt, and Tim completed the family and were taught, by example, the value and satisfaction of hard work. He often went for drives to check on progress at the neighboring farms and beyond, attended many ball games as the kids grew, was active with St Boniface Parish activities, and kept his farmland and the home place neat and orderly. His favorite ‘vacation’ location was sitting on his 4-wheeler in the creek pasture watching his cows and calves graze. Even after moving to town, he often hopped in the pickup or Gator to escape to the pasture. William was a resident of Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek for the last 15 months, dying at Faith Health in Norfolk, Nebraska on October 16, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Angela and Joe, nieces Mary and Stephanie Eischeid, and nephew Dana Baum.
He was loved in life and will be in death by his wife Carol, children Sarah (Jay) Ericson, Chris (Terri) Eischeid, Matt (Melissa) Eischeid, Tim (Katie) Eischeid and grandchildren Alex, Zac and Ellie Eischeid, Tyrus and Cale Eischeid, siblings Ron (Linda) Eischeid, Ruth (Dave) Rue, Mary (Jim) Baum, David (Janice) Eischeid, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
