She was the grand marshal of the Wheeler County Fair parade.
Along with her husband Lawrence, they first moved to Wheeler County in 1960 to work for Warren Olson on a ranch northwest of Bartlett. They went on to raise seven kids who were all actively involved in various 4-H projects and participated annually at the Wheeler County Fair.
Lawrence was on the fair board for several years while Dorothy worked in the exhibit building as well as serving on the Extension Board.
She has been a great supporter of the Wheeler County Fair through the years, as well as other event in Bartlett and surrounding communities. She has been an active member for many years in the Bartlett Garden Club and Extension Club.
In 1999 Dorothy went to work for the Bibs and Boots Café and took over the business two years later with the help of her daughters, Becky and Natalie, along with good friends Sharon and Blondie.
As noted in the announcement Saturday night at the fairgrounds, she has appreciated lots of help – from other women and high school kids throughout her 21 years at the café. It is not uncommon to see one of Dorothy’s 18 grandchildren and 28 great grand-kids helping work the tables.
Pauline Marker has been great help as of late. It was noted how Dorothy loves to take time and visit with all the friends and customers who come through her doors.
