Helen M. Neukirch, 93 of Elgin, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society-Millard, Omaha, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2018 (today) at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, with Rev. Kevin Vogel officiating.
Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Visitation was 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. wake service.
Memorials are suggested to St. Boniface Catholic Church, Elgin.
Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Marie Neukirch, daughter of Sam and Kathryn (Heithoff) Smith was born December 18, 1924 at Elgin, NE.  She attended school at St. Boniface Catholic School in Elgin, NE and graduated with the class of 1942.
On November 11, 1947 Helen was united in marriage to Alfred Neukirch at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE.  The couple moved several times with the construction company where Al worked.  They purchased the Coffee Shop in North Bend and then later moved to Fremont.  In 1954 they moved to the family farm just north of Elgin where she was born.  Helen worked with her husband on the farm and was a housewife.
Helen was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church where she was in the church choir for sixty years and loved doing the midnight Masses at Christmas, she also was a Christian Mother member along with the Altar Society.   She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Elgin 12 Club.  Helen enjoyed singing, painting, reading, crossword puzzles, a mean game of Scrabble, traveling, and working outdoors on the farm.
She is survived by her three children: Carolyn (Larry) Schmitz of Omaha, NE; Diane (Joe) Scheppers of Omaha, NE; Donald (Marla) Neukirch of Yankton, SD; eight grandchildren: Paula (Pat) Schinning; Joseph (Leah) Scheppers; Myra (Scott) Mulholland; Leah Scheppers; Jackie (Clark) Foy; Tony Schmitz; Alex (Jen) Neukirch; Travis (Cassi) Neukirch; seven great-grandchildren: Cameron and Keely Mulholland; Cora and Charles Foy; Garrett and Lauriann Schinning; Quinn Scheppers; sister-in-law: Marie (Tom) Morrissey and Jule Smith; brother-in-law Martin Neukirch and Jim Roubal; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Al, three brothers: Leonard (Sally) Loehr, Floyd Smith, Fr. Bob Smith; and two sisters: Tarsella (Dave) Kelly, and Evelyn (Perry) Trulock and numerous other in-laws.
