An Elgin businessman was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Elgin City Council.
At Monday night’s meeting, Mike Dvorak was sworn in as Ward 2 City Councilman, filling the empty seat created when Kenny Jochum chose not to run for re-election.
Mayor Mike Schmitt said he had just one person inquire about serving on the council.
Dvorak is the owner of Dvorak Construction and has been active in numerous community activities through the years. His term will be four years, meaning his seat will come up for election in 2018.
On another matter involving the makeup of the city council, Councilman Don Mackel was elected to the positiion of president of the council.
