Funeral Services for Donald F. White, age 83, of Plainview will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 9th, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Plainview with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery.  Visitation for Don was from 4-8 P.M., Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Plainview.  Military Honors will be conducted by the Plainview American Legion and VFW.  Don passed away at his home Saturday morning, October 5th surrounded by his family.
Donald F. White was born on March 26, 1930 to George and Verna (Johnson) White in Plainview Nebraska. He attended country school at District 122 and graduated from Plainview High School in 1947.
After graduation, Don farmed until he was drafted in the United States Army in January, 1952.  He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in Dec. 1953.  When he returned to Plainview, he returned to farming southwest of Plainview.
On April 27, 1961 he married Norma Jean (Boies) Larson.  Two children were born, Steve and Tami.  They lived on the family farm southwest of Plainview. In Dec. 1987, they moved to town where they resided at his time of death.
Don loved sports. He played first base for the Plainview Town Team for many years.  He enjoyed professional baseball, he was able to go to games at Minnesota, Chicago, St. Louis and Kansas City. Don also enjoyed Nebraska Cornhuskers play at Haymarket Park.  In later years, Don would follow all his grandkids ballgames.
Golf was one of Don’s favorite past times.  He loved golfing with his wife and friends.  He especially liked golfing with his grandchildren (Derek, Brittany and Miles).  He got his only Hole in One at the Plainview Golf Course in 2000.
Don enjoyed retirement. They enjoyed taking trips with family and friends.  For many years, Don and Norma would go to McAllen, TX for the winter months.  He enjoyed family reunions, playing cards, going gambling, bowling and just sitting in his recliner watching any sports on TV with his family. Every spring and fall, Don would be helping his son, Steve with the farming.  He especially loved running the combine. In the past, he served on the Board of Directors of Plainview National Bank.  He served on REA board, church council, cemetery board, Crawford Valley Township.  He was a member of American Legion Post  0148.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Norma Jean of Plainview, son Steve (Deb)White of Plainview, daughter Tami (Jerry) Schrage of Raeville.  Grandchildren Derek, Brittany, and Nicole White of Plainview and Miles, Madison Schrage of Raeville. One brother Duane (Kate) White of Plainview, sisters Donna Mae (Weldon) Alexander of Colorado City, CO, and Darlene (Ron) Blumm of Lake Havasu, AZ.  Sister in law Phyllis Steinkraus of Wausa NE.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was proceeded in death by his parents, his infant sister,  father and mother in law Ray and Susie Boies, brother in laws Wendell Steinkraus and Vernon Johansen, sister in law Leona Jessen and Jan White, Nephew Alvin Hoefer. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family of Donald White.
